Which Canada Day Lip Should You Wear?

canadadaylip

So I have never been a red lipstick gal. I don’t know if it is the maintenance of a red lip that has kept me away or that I tend the memory of wearing a really dark red lip to my grade seven prom and getting it all over me. Whatever the reason, I don’t gravitate to reds.

But hey, it’s Canada’s 150 and what calls for a red lip more than Canada’s 150th birthday…nothing. Also I have recently been into Urban Decay Lipsticks and saw that they had Canada Day lipstick. So I threw it in my sephora cart (not literally as I shop Sephora online, but still I grabbed it quick).

If you follow me on my beauty IG (beautybyreview) you would have seen posted this lipstick a couple weeks ago now.

FullSizeRender (9)Next I saw that Bite had a shade out as well. I should have known Bite Beauty would be coming out with a Canada Day shade as well since they are a Canadian company. So I figured why not do a comparison of the two, to help you if you are trying to decide on the perfect Canada Day lip shade.

FullSizeRender (8)Lets start with UD. No Tell Motel  ($21 for 0.11 oz/ 3.25 mL) I was kind of disappointed when I looked up this shade and found out it had been out for a while and doesn’t seem to be a Canada Day special but I can’t help but love the shade. It is a neutral red with a satin finish and boy is it pigmented. It swipes on like a dream and feels so nice on the lips. It has  “A butter blend comforts, hydrates, and enhances, leaving lips soft and conditioned, and never dry. Aloe vera, jojoba, avocado, and babassu oils help nurture and soften lips” (from Sephora’s website) and you can definitely tell, as it is super hydrating.

UD on top Bite on bottom. Honestly I did press down a bit harder with the bite and lifted off too soon with the UD which explains the skip at the end.

Next Bite Beauty. Flag Red ($30 for .15 oz/ 4.35 g) I do really like Bite’s formula of their Amuse Bouche lipsticks. However this one tended to pull a bit more then my others when applied. It doesn’t feel as creamy as my others. Because the formula is a bit more dry then the UD, putting this on after the UD felt like I had to put a lot more effort into it. This shade pulls towards an orange tone for me and from the reviews on Sephora’s website I don’t seem to be the only one feeling that way.  I have also heard that it seems to be a re-create of GTA which was another limited edition they put out not too long ago, but I haven’t never seen the shade to compare.

My lips are continually dry so I quickly and I quickly put on the Bite lipstick the other day before exfoliating, and it stuck to every crease in my lips, I wiped it off and put the UD on right behind and it felt like putting a lip balm on. Usually I find Bite lipsticks to be quite comfortable so I am not sure what has happened with this one.

I will definitely be choosing the No Tell Motel over the Flag Red for my Canada Day lip. But if my order from Kat Von D gets here before the weekend, there may be another contender lol.

Are you going with a red lip this Canada Day? If so let me know which one, I may start getting into the red scene.

*Sorry I haven’t included any lip swatches in this post. I have been suffering from a migraine for the past few days and haven’t had the chance to get the photos. But check out the links below to see lip swatches from others I have found.
